Aquaculture or aquafarming involves raising and production of aquatic creatures such as fish, shrimp and other crustaceans according to Wikipedia.
Aside from stocks, my friend and I have invested with a small capital into aquafarming. Since our worksite is near open waters, we decided to venture into a "Baklad Type" Fishery. We managed to deal with a local fisherman. We act as financiers while he will be the operator and an arrangement of a 50/50 split shares on net sales or the harvest itself.
A "Baklad Type" is a system wherein bamboo poles with net are installed in shallow/deep sea. It is almost similar to the baklads you see when you go to Laguna de Bay however this set up is built to guide the school of fish or any group of sea creatures into the deeper part of a net (just like a sudden inflow of Gilas fans going inside the Mall of Asia haha). After a day or two, entrapped fishes are then harvested and sold.
This is a bold move from us since we are just dayo in that area. But in every business, trust and respect should be invested to keep everybody on the same boat and steer everyone on the right direction. You need to research as well (para di ka oo ng oo sa kausap mo). And just to give an idea, the baklad was 90% installed and harvested already in just 3 weeks! Our goal first is to get the capital back and venture into another area which is "Mudcrab Culture"(our supposedly first business). I will write a separate post on this once this comes operational. Ika nga "Wag pangunahan baka maudlot pa" :)
We are also planning to attend the SEAFDEC Training this coming October at Iloilo if our work schedule permits, cross fingers.
Lessons Learned:
- When you have a vision, try to act on it (Pag gusto may paraan, Pag ayaw maraming dahilan)
- Research, research pag may time (sori scientist eh, you need to know what you are dealing with)
Btw, for background, I have tried lovebirds business when I was still in college. I think I have good communication skills and the scientific approach to make each of my investments grow.
